General Directorate of Colleges of Applied Sciences

The directorate of colleges of applied science oversees at the colleges of applied science which established by royal decree No.62/2007 on 3/7/2007 and it’s numbering six colleges are distributed in the states of Nizwa, Sohar, Salalah, sur, Ibri, Rustaq and the duration of university studies on faculties of applied science are five years, including a year of study foundation program and four years to get the bachelor’s degree  in one of the offered programs on these colleges, and the programs are: information technology, international business management, communication studies and design. In addition, each program of it includes a range of disciplines and distributed those programs across six colleges (Sohar, Nizwa, Salalah, Sur, Ibri and Rustaq). It also notes that the major programs are not necessarily to put all of that in college program, which can put some programs in a college and some programs in another college, depending on the needs of the labor sector. The teaching language on the colleges of applied science is English language, on the other hand the engineering programs of the three disciplines (Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) are only intended for the college of applied science in Sohar and the duration of study are six years, including two years of foundation programs.

·        Department of counseling students and graduates directing.

 

6.     Research Center:

College of Applied Sciences in Nizwa

The Nizwa CAS is located in the ancient town of Nizwa in the Dakhiliyah region, about 170 km south of Muscat. The Nizwa CAS is a centre of specialization in Communication Studies. The College awards Bachelor Degrees in Communication Studies (Digital Media, Media Management, Journalism, PR, and International Communications); and, Design (Graphic, Spatial and Digital Design).

Ibri CollegeCollege of Applied Sciences in Ibri

The Ibri College of Applied Sciences (CAS) is located in the Dhahiria region, about 350 km northwest of Muscat. The College awards Bachelor degrees in Information Technology (Software Development, Computer Networks and IT Security); International Business Administration (Tourism Management and Accountancy) and Design (Graphic, Spatial and Digital Design). In the academic year 2009/2010, there were 1,564 students enrolled.

The College has undertaken significant development projects in fulfilling its mission, such as greatly increasing the number of classrooms and laboratories. Equipped with modern technologies, the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) has kept abreast of new developments in resources for teaching and learning.

Dr Ahmed Jumah Al-Riyami is Dean of the Ibri College of Applied Sciences.

Sur CollegeCollege of Applied Sciences in Sur

The Sur College of Applied Sciences (CAS) is located in the Sharqiyah Region about 350 km east of Muscat. The College awards Bachelor degrees in Information Technology (Software Development, Computer Networks and IT Security) and Communication Studies (Digital Media, Journalism and International Communications). In the academic year 2009/2010, there were 1,249 students at Sur CAS taught by 92 academic staff members, with the support of 66 administrators and technicians.

Dr Hamad Al Alawi is Dean of the Sur CAS.

Sohar CollegeCollege of Applied Sciences in Sohar

Sohar College of Applied Sciences (CAS) is located about 259 km west of Muscat. The Sohar region is considered one of the most important national tourist attractions because of its history and spectacular scenery. The Sohar Industrial Port has brought tremendous economic development.

The College awards Bachelor degrees in Information Technology (Software Development, Computer Networks and IT Security), and Engineering (Electrical, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering). In the academic year 2009/2010, there were 1,392 students enrolled, taught by 113 academic faculty with the support of 53 administrative and academic support staff.

Dr Abdullah Ali Al Shibli is Dean of the Sohar CAS.

Al Rustaq CollegeCollege of Applied Sciences in Al-Rustaq

The Rustaq College of Applied Sciences (CAS) is situated at the southern edge of the Batinah Plain. The College offers International Business programs (International Business Management) and Education programs for a limited number of students in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and English Language. In 2009/2010, there were 1,626 students at the Rustaq CAS taught by 120 teachers with the support of 81 allied academic and administration staff members.

Dr Mostafa Abdul Baki is the Dean of the Rustaq CAS.

Salalah CollegeCollege of Applied Sciences in Salalah

The Salalah College of Applied Sciences (CAS) is located in the southern city of Salalah in the Governorate of Dhofar. The College awards Bachelor degrees in Information Technology (Software Development and IT Security); International Business Administration (International Business Management); and Communication Studies (Public Relations, International Communications and Digital Media). In 2009/2010, there were 1,118 students at the Salalah CAS taught by 77 academic faculty, with the support of 59 academic and administrative support staff.

Dr Bakhit al Mahri is Dean of the Salalah CAS.
